"The summer 2010 class of interns at the Berkman Center for Internet & Society took on a huge assignment: pick a chapter from Urs Gasser and John Palfrey's book, Born Digital, and make a short video inspired by that chapter.

This video, inspired by the "Overload" chapter, was created by Gregory Asmolov and Eliane Bucher, with production assistance from the Berkman Center for Internet & Society/Youth and Media project. It is released under a Creative Commons 3.0 Attribution Non-Commercial license."

  1. I really have 2 comments here. I noticed that they didn't say don't USE FB Twitter, etc. but instead to turn them off or block them for a period of time. An interesting concept! And one which makes sense since they also mention the useful aspects for bringing people together for action.

Second. This is not a bad idea for a book report, particularly for certain books. Maybe not a book chapter, but something more thematic. And I won't require you to upload to YouTube, though you could if you wanted to.

  2. Regarding your 1st comment Suellen - the idea of turning off rather than eliminating the social media brought me back to your statement during our f-2-f class when you said that we "need to set boundaries". I do this occasioanlly with the news. When life gets too hectic and I feel as if I can't handle one more piece of negativity, I will stop watching the news or reading the newspaper for awhile. Honestly, I have not been as successful with setting the boundaries during this class however. Everything is so new and interesting, that I find myself continuously drawn to my laptop.

Regarding your 2nd comment - thank you. I think this format my be useful for my my book. I've watched a few of the YouTube videos produced by the interns at the Berkman Center and there are some interesting ideas. I have never published to YouTube and have very rarely watched it, so it will be a learning experience - as this entire course has been for me!
